FreeLance world coverage Advice

Hello fellow photographers,

I am a amateur photographer who has the luck to travel 11 months of the year. I work as a communication consultant helping developing nations showcase the brighter side of their country. I usually spend 1 to 3 months max in the country and presently in Niger Africa. I have been to Saudi, Uganda, Malawi, Bangladesh, Thailand, Nepal, Burma, Congo to name a few.

My question is the following, I assume that some of my locations do not always have a western media representative for photos and was wondering how someone would go about getting in contact to be a representative as a freelancer? Would it be via a Photo Agent? Via a Media house? What would you suggest?

My photography has a wide range but while travelling I prefer to try and take photos that represent the truth about the country and its social development. Also my job requires me to meet with the Head of States and almost all the ministers so I am usually well connected and have unique access to the country and could also take profile pictures of head of states etc for western media.

Anyway thanks in advance for the help and look fwd to seeing some replies.

Hi Filoup,

Have you ever considered submitting photos to be used in press (ie: newspapers). Current affairs/etc could be a could starting point. Also, stock sites. Because you have something different you might be surprised.

Hello David,

Yes i have thought about press, but was assuming there was a proper rout to take ie a media agency that would represent me as a freelancer. Or do you think its best to contact newspapers straight up?

Well, it might be a good starting point to at least gather contacts of any agencies they go through.

Hi Filoup,

What a great job you must have! The interesting thing is that you said 'Also my job requires me to meet with the Head of States and almost all the ministers so I am usually well connected and have unique access to the country and could also take profile pictures of head of states etc'...I would use that facility to make inroads to the people who can help you, for instance the tourist boards of these countries..in Thailand it would be TAT..most tourist boards are in the business of showcasing their country and perhaps this is an avenue you could pursue.
I would be happy to help you out concerning Thailand as I have had recent contact with TAT regarding an initiative I put to them.
