Ian Davies, director of group business development for Archant dies in plane crash

Ian Davies, director of group business development for Archant, was killed yesterday in a plane crash, a statement from the publishing group has confirmed.

Davies, who was a keen aviator with more than 3,000 hours as a pilot, died after his light aircraft collided with an agricultural vehicle at Seething airfield in Norfolk.

The 49-year-old had worked for the newspaper group for 19 years and previously held roles as director of Archant Regional, Archant Life, Archant Specialist and Archant Dialogue.

He had also helped developed Archant's digital properties and was involved with the publisher's plans for geotagging news content.

"Everyone at Archant is extremely saddened to hear of the tragic accident involving Ian yesterday. He was a keen amateur pilot with a real passion for all aspects of flying. His sudden death has been felt by us all," said John Fry, Archant chief executive, in the release.

"Our thoughts are with his family and in particular his wife Colette and children Francesca and Josh."

A second man involved in the crash has been admitted to Norfolk and Norwich University hospital in a critical condition with serious injuries.

The incident will be investigated by the Air Accident Investigation Branch.
