FPME gets a new look and a new Editor in the form of Ian Andrews
Hello all,
Back in an early edition of the magazine I penned an article about giving your time/work/images away for free, and here I am practicing what I preach! I've added that article to the newly developed Articles section of the site to save you scrabbling through your old copies in search of it, just to see what I said!
Since the demise of the Magazine a number of the more 'Diehard' members have expressed the wish for the concept to continue, albeit in a web format rather than the expensive glossy mag format of FPME's former incarnation. And so here we have it!
Why me? That's simple, I volunteered! Why? Because I believe that FPME is a great concept and, with life generally getting harder (read 'more expensive') I think that now is the time that more of us will be looking for more/new ways of earning a few pounds/euros/dollars from our photography. And we need somewhere to exchange views and ideas as well as advice and information.
And what qualifications have I got? Not many, so I'll need all the help that you can give me! OK, I've been freelancing full time for a while now, so I know the hardships, and I've been writing articles, both technical and illustrated, for all of that time, but editing is a leap into the unknown for me. I'm certain that I'll make mistakes and I'm equally certain that you will berate me for them, but I'm also hopeful that you will help to make the FPME community one that you'll be proud to be associated with.
On that subject, you will find that if you browse the new News Section as well as the Articles Section you will see buttons for the submission of your own news stories and articles. I do hope you will use them as there are a multitude of areas open to the photographic freelancer and in no way do I pretend to know the intricate aspects to all of them.
There have been a number of good suggestions in the forum as to what should be done with FPME and I hope that with your help the better ones can be implemented, but it will only happen if the FPME community becomes an active one, so in many ways the outcome is in your hands. I'm only here to do a bit of steering.
Wish me luck.......... please!
Ian Andrews
